This is a beautiful story and thoughts. I keep seeing this idea in the internet world that western culture is somehow death averse and it’s just not true. Meditating on Death including the death of loved ones as well as memento mori literature was huge part of western cultures in the medieval and Victorian eras and contemplating death remains an important element of traditional Catholic and other traditional Christian religious practices to this day.
